Brendon and Patrick Stump held a quick webchat together early this afternoon to announce Patrick Stump will be joining Panic! At The Disco on their fall tour. The tour starts on October 9 in Reno, check the rest of the dates here.
[...] [Can you tell the story of the signing of] Panic! At The Disco?
So, I’d signed Fall Out Boy, and obviously, was very passionate about Fall Out Boy and I’d gotten to know Pete very, very well. When I was trying to sign them–I never flew out to see Fall Out Boy, I signed them over the telephone because we were a small company and we didn’t have ton of money. Pete and I clicked and he believed in what we were doing, and so did the rest of the guys in Fall Out Boy. But Pete was kind of the business guy. And Pete and I, over the course of Take This To Your Grave, really kind of hit the pavement as far as marketing went. We were really DIY and scrappy–we sold two hundred and fifty thousand units of Take This To Your Grave. When it started out, we sold 1200 the first week, and then we were selling four hundred albums a week, and then I remember all the different points–getting the endcap at Hot Topic, getting this tour, doing this marketing. We just kind of gradually sold records and were so hyper-focused. This is the long version, I apologize. (laughs) Read the full article »

Below is an excerpt of an interview where Nate Ruess from fun. talks about their collaboration with Panic! At The Disco on “C’mon”.
fun. recently collaborated and recorded a new song with Panic! At The Disco. How did that come about? Did the collaboration lead to the tour or vice versa?
Nate: I’d say that it did. Those guys are cool. We had heard they were fans and wanted to work together, and we thought based off of “pretty odd” that it would be an ideal fit. And it was!

There’s been a rumor Pete Wentz’s new band, Black Cards, would open for Panic! At The Disco in the Fall. In a recent interview to PropertyofZack.com Pete Wentz denies the report.
Rumors have also been flying about a Panic! At The Disco, Neon Trees, and Black Cards tour. Can you confirm that as well?
I don’t know how this became a tour. Maybe Panic! invited us to the tour, I’m not sure. I only know about one show in New York City in Central Park on September 1st. If Panic! is going on tour and they want to bring us, that’d be awesome. We’d definitely like to tour with Neon Trees too.
BLAKE HARNAGE OF VERSAEMERGE
INTERVIEWED BY BRENDON URIE OF PANIC! AT THE DISCO
Was there a specific moment that you decided music was your life? when was that?
I was into a lot of different things when I was younger. I actually wanted to be a professional bmx bike rider haha. I was around 14 when I decided I was better at music than skateboarding, surfing, motocross, bmx, etc.. Plus there are fewer broken bones involved!
I love the chords you choose for your songs. very unusual and unique. what were some of your main influences growing up?
Thanks! I’ve had a very broad range of influences growing up… Jimi Hendrix, Greenday, and The Smashing Pumpkins just to name a few. (My first band was actually a blues band fyi…) I really enjoy chord changes that are unconventional, although plain diatonic changes can be equally beautiful! Read the full article »

INTERVIEWED BY BLAKE HARNAGE OF VERSAEMERGE
So I’m not sure if there’s anyone currently NOT excited for the new Panic album. If you had to compare the album to a fruit bowl, what types of fruit might one find in it? Judging by Mona Lisa, I’d imagine a strawberry or two…
Sure! Throw in a bundle of seedless grapes, some sliced watermelon, exactly 4 oranges, some lilikoi, a few kiwis, and a couple of bananas; You’ve got yourself a record.
One thing that i’ve always been able to relate to in your music and style is the influence from film scores and soundtracks. Are there any particular new or old films you’ve drawn creative ideas from while working on Vices and Virtues?
We definitely share a love for scores and films. I suppose the movie I watched the most while making this record was The Big Lebowski. From the soundtrack to the dialogue and characters, easily one of the most entertaining films I’ve ever seen. I’ve always loved the scene/mini movie that uses Kenny Roger’s “Just Dropped In.” The song on it’s own is an event and the film introduced me to it. I highly recommend this movie to everyone.
