The Young Veins
Expect it: Spring (Label TBA)

“It’s strange doing all of this all over again,” says guitarist and now vocalist Ryan Ross, formerly of Panic! At The Disco and currently on half of the Young Veins alongside fellow P!ATD defector Jon Walker. “It’s been so long since we’ve had to worry about things like looking for a record label and signing a deal, but we’re excited.” The pair left Panic! this past July with visions of an album that leans more toward the retro-fit influences that Ross and Walker have been inspired by – bands like the Kinks, the Dave Clark Five and, of course, the Beatles. Still, they didn’t realize their new direction would pull them from the band they were already in. “I always figured Panic! were whatever we were doing at the time,” says Ross. “Jon and I wrote a lot of [Panic!’s 2008 album] Pretty. Odd., but it was clear we needed a new outlet.” Within weeks of their announcement, Ross and Walker began laying down tracks for the Young Veins’ debut with a decidedly vintage – and fearless – approach. “Since we were on our own, we went further – recording directly to tape with more flowery, band-oriented stuff.” Only two of the 11 songs on the Young Veins’ debut clock in at more than 3 minutes long, and Ross promises a feel-good “beach” vibe. “It’s not as beachy as the Beach Boys, but it’ll be a fun party album,” he says. “We wrote good pop songs that are short and fun. The key is that we aren’t taking ourselves too seriously.”

Not everyone featured in last year’s Most Anticipated of 2009 issue managed to follow through with their best laid plans. For one reason or another, a handful of bands had to bump their albums to 2010. Why? Read on.

PANIC! AT THE DISCO
You can’t really blame Panic! At The Disco for needing an extension to finish their third album. After all, half of the band left this past summer. “Our band went through a transition which was definitely the right thing for everybody involved,” says drummer Spencer Smith. “But we’re definitely back on track now.” Smith and frontman Brendon Urie have been focusing their efforts on the album for the past several months, only playing a few sporadic shows so the record can be released by summer. “There are a bunch of songs that are more or less done and others that are still at a rough stage with lots of potential,” says Smith. “It’s still going to be very ‘Panic.’ There are elements of everything our fans love worked into what we’re writing, but it’s another step in the evolution of our band.”
